American Chorten by Lisa Napoli
The National Mall is ringed by several important structures, including the Washington Monument, which commemorates America’s first president, George Washington. He is considered to be the father of the nation. Here you see the Washington Monument behind workers as they construct the roof on the lakhang. The sandstone obelisk is 169 meters tall and is the largest structure in the world made of stone. It was finished in 1884. The White House, where the US President currently resides, is about six blocks away from this location.
